DallasHR will hold a 9-week study group in Spring 2018 that prepares participants to take the existing certification exams for both HRCI (PHR, SPHR or GPHR) and SHRM certifications (SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP).

The purpose of the HR Certification Study Group is to provide a high level overview of the knowledge and skills necessary to accomplish the goal of certification. This includes:

• The Body of Knowledge required for each exam
• The competencies that will be assessed on the exam
• Test taking tips, strategies and practice examples
• Available resources at different price points and detail to fit your personal needs
• The opportunity to partner with others in this endeavor, sharing  knowledge, expertise and resources

Q: Which certification does DallasHR recommend?
A: DallasHR supports both the SHRM and HRCI certifications for our members. The HRCI certifications build human resources knowledge and the SHRM certifications provide HR professionals with the competency to apply it. For more information, please visit dallashr.org/certification.

Q: What materials are provided?
A: All of our facilitators create their own materials for each module. You are typically provided with PowerPoint presentations and/or additional supplemental study materials as each facilitator sees fit.

Q: How can I connect with other participants and the facilitators?
A: All class participants will be added to a private community within HRConnect when you can connect with other classmates and your faciliators to ask questions or share advice outside of class. Before the class beigns you will be invited to this online community.

Q: What materials are recommended?
A: HRCI Exam – HRCI.org offers a variety of bundled prep materials when you sign up for the exam. We have historically heard from past participants that investing in the PHR|SPHR Professional in Human Resources Certification Study Guide by Reed & Bogardus, using of the flash card system and participating in peer study groups were most influential in their success of passing the exam.

SHRM Exam – As a SHRM-affiliate chapter, DallasHR receives a significant discount on the SHRM Learning System. DallasHR extends this savings to those participating in our study group provided that we have at least 5 interested. Contact [email protected] for additional details and to purchase.

Q: Who are the facilitators and what are their credentials?
A: All of our facilitators are HR professionals who hold an HRCI and/or SHRM certification. Additionally, many of them teach certification preparation courses at local colleges/universities.

Q: How do I get the materials from a session that I miss?
A: Materials will be made available to those who were unable to attend at the next class.

Q: How do I sign up to take the HR Certification Exams?
A: There are two recognized organizations that facilitate certification exams. Visit www.hrci.org for information on testing and scheduling or click here for more information about the PHR or SPHR.  Visit www.shrm.org for information on testing windows and scheduling or click here for more information about the SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP. 

Q: Can we receive recertification credits for participating in this course?
A: No, recertification credits are not available for this course.

Q: How does the study group differ from the university programs?
A: The study group meets for nine weeks but the total class time is less than that experienced in the university programs. It offers a structured learning experience that helps keep you on track. The study group is ideal for HR professionals that have a limited budget and feel comfortable in a self-study environment with the option of partnering with other HR professionals in their area. 

Q: How do I activate my one year DallasHR Membership?
A: Once your study group registration has been processed by DallasHR, your one year membership will be activated within 48 hours.  A staff member will reach out to you to obtain any additional information needed in order to process your membership so you can gain access to the online member-only community to engage in the study group discussion group.  If you choose to opt out of the one year membership you will not be reimbursed.

Payment

Payment is due with registration. No POs or requests for invoicing can be honored. Checks should be made payable and mailed (to be received no later than Tuesday, February 27) to:

IMPORTANT: Advance registrations are strongly recommended. Due to limited room capacity, we cannot guarantee seating for onsite registrants. To receive cancellation credit, your written request must be received at DallasHR no later than Friday, February 24. There will be no refund if cancellation is received after Friday, February 24. Purchase of the SHRM Learning Materials with your registration are non-refundable.
