Do it Well, Make it Fun!

If you’ve ever had a boss who was good at what he or she did but was also fun to be around, you didn’t mind arriving early or working late. In fact, you probably loved your job. That’s the power of Do it Well, Make it Fun. It’s about seeking excellence but making the process of life and work more fun.

This presentation shows HR staff and leaders how to create a less stressful work environment where people want to work. It also helps them understand that excellence combined with fun and humor can improve productivity, create better working relationships, enhance creativity, change the workplace culture, and lead to the delivery of better products and services.

Learning Objectives:
1.    Understand the difference between seriousness and excellence.
2.     Recognize that everything is a process and each step in the process can be improved and more fun.
3.    Manage stress more effectively by changing their perspective and seeing the humor in their life.
4.    Connect and communicate with others more effectively by using empathy and humor.
5.    Manage the work environment so that you are more effective and have more fun.

About the Speaker:

Ron Culberson, MSW, CSP, CPAE

With a master’s degree in social work, Ron spent the first part of his career working in a large hospice organization as a clinical social worker, middle manager, and senior leader.  As a speaker, humorist, and author of Do it Well. Make it Fun. The Key to Success in Life, Death, and Almost Everything in Between, he has delivered more than 1,000 presentations to associations, government agencies, non-profit organizations, and corporations.  His mission is to change the workplace culture so that organizations are more productive and staff are more content. He was also the 2012-2013 president of the National Speakers Association and is a recognized expert on the benefits of humor and laughter.

Growing with Purpose: Maintaining Your Culture & Engagement as Your Company Grows & Expands

As your organization grows, it is important to focus on the employee experience, which starts on day one. Everything from an onboarding program with advocates, on the job training plans, to new hire check ins are critical for a positive experience. Throughout the team member’s employee life cycle, feedback, career development opportunities, and peer recognition continue to build on the experience in a positive light. Especially during times of growth, ensuring that your organization it focused on its people will help to facilitate positive reactions to change and growth, especially when the “why” is communicated, ultimately leading to a successful expansion.

Culture & Performance: How Millennial Employees Engage with Your Organization
Presented by: Dennie Laney, VP of Training & People Development, MOOYAH Burgers Fries & Shakes

In this presentation, you will hear a few of the “truths”, and “myths” associated with what Millennials and Zs are seeking in the workplace, from their perspective. It’s time we listen to what the next generations are saying about our organizations’ cultures. Attendees will discover how their current culture is impacting employees’ performance and level of engagement. Additionally, there will be a discussion of what employees really want from their employers. Ask yourself, what exactly are we not getting quite right yet?

1.    Learn what culture in the workplace means and how it impacts your employees, especially those in younger
2.    Recognize the continuing evolution of feedback, performance reviews, and measuring performance
3.    Understand how “loyalty” has changed, and what it looks like today and beyond

Felicia has over 18 years of experience specializing in small to mid-size organizations providing guidance and leadership to senior managers and leadership in startup, growth and stable organizations. Her broad experience includes culture cultivation, HR strategy, total rewards, compensation strategies and talent acquisition & retention. She has experience in various industries including multi-unit retail, technology, health & wellness and advertising. Prior to joining VARIDESK, Felicia supported the Enterprise Solutions EVP at RealPage Inc with people strategy and execution in his division. In addition, she established a scalable HR model and for a multi-unit sales retail operation for one of SMU COX Dallas 100™ and INC 5000 Fastest growing companies in the Metroplex.

Felicia has a Bachelor of Science in Human Resources Management. She holds her Senior Professional Human Resources certification as well as her Professional in Human Resources California certification and is a member of the Society for Human Resource Management.

Dennie Laney, VP of Training & People Development, MOOYAH Burgers Fries & Shakes

Dennie Laney has dedicated her career to serving individuals, teams, and organizations desiring to cultivate an environment of building trusting relationships, where authenticity and humility lay the foundation for outstanding results. Dennie has supported corporate and operations teams, speaking to audiences of hundreds of leaders and executives about the value of people. Her passion for the customer experience, the team member experience, for promoting a positive brand image, and for helping teams deliver on these promises, has shaped her career in the hospitality industry. Dennie is also a John Maxwell certified Coach, Public Speaker, and Leadership Professional. Her passion lies with supporting leaders in providing an environment where their teams can thrive both personally and professionally. This case study will demonstrate how Brinker International has embraced diversity and inclusion, engagement and retention strategies through their well-being platform. By inspiring employees to bring their “BEST YOU” to work each day, Brinker has developed specific initiatives to promote wellness, gender equity, and an engaged workforce. Additionally, Brinker has merged the voice of their guest and their team member to predict better business results and engagement.

Lianne Daues, Recruiting & Talent Director at The Container Store, has built a career around her passion – PEOPLE!  With experience in the healthcare and retail industries, she has developed and lead best in class college recruitment and talent acquisition programs.  In her current role at The Container Store, she leads talent acquisition efforts for the company’s 91 stores and corporate office headquartered in Coppell, TX.  Being a part of an employee-first culture, one that has landed the company in Fortune’s annual “Top 100 Best Companies to Work For” for 19 consecutive years, keeps her motivated every day!  She attended Miami University of Ohio and graduated suma cum lade with a degree in Interpersonal Communication and Public Relations.  Outside of work, she enjoys running, gardening and spending time with her husband and young daughter.

Jerry Farmer, MPA, HCS, Sr. Manager of Talent Effectiveness, Brinker International

Jerry Farmer, MPA, HCS is the Sr. Manager of Talent Effectiveness for Brinker International. Jerry Farmer has over 15 years’ experience as an OD/HR Practitioner. He has led the design and implementation of global performance and talent management strategies, engagement, diversity & inclusion and leadership assessments throughout the oil & gas, healthcare, government, and  IT industries. Currently as the Sr. Manager of Talent Effectiveness, he is responsible for re-designing and introducing an integrated talent management strategy that focuses on a new Team Member engagement experience,  new hourly & leadership assessments and upward/360 feedback tools.

Tammy Jones-Still, MBA, Sr. Director of Diversity & Inclusion, Brinker International

Tammy Still is the Senior Director of Diversity and Inclusion for Brinker International.  In this role, she is responsible for working with leaders across the organization to elevate and strengthen diversity and inclusion strategies and results.  She is the Co-Chair for VisitDallas’ Diversity and Inclusion Committee, and just completed a 4 year term as the President of the Greater Dallas Advisory Board of the Texas Diversity Council.

Prior to her current role, she held the title of Senior Director of Accounting Shared Services for Brinker where she oversaw team productivity, plan execution, organizational results and most importantly employee development.  Her career has included oversight of multiple Accounting functions including:  Sales Accounting & Forecasting, Credit Card Accounting, Payroll, Operations Accounting, Fixed Assets, Property/Lease Accounting, and Accounts Payables.

She has a passion for Diversity and Inclusion professionally and in the community, philanthropy, and she has sat on multiple non-profit Boards to provide a Finance background and diverse point of view.
