My Space, Your Space: Employees' Social Networking Site

About the Program:

The use of social networking sites is becoming more and more popular with all generations in the workplace. In this session, we will explore the impacts of Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, and personal blogs in the workplace. Do employers need to create and enforce a plicy addressing the use of the internet during work hours? This session will review how far an employer's right to monitor employees' internet use can extend in terms of the social networking boom.

About Our Facilitators:

Mike DePonte joined the Dallas office of Jackson Lewis LLP as Of Counsel in June of 2008. Mike is Board Certified in both Labor and Employment Law and Civil Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. Of the approximately 77,000 attorneys that are licensed in the State of Texas, only 25 are Board Certified in both of these areas. Mr. DePonte has extensive litigation and trial background having tried numerous cases in state and federal courts in Texas. His practice focuses on discimination, harassment and retaliation claims litigation, employment-related torts, wage and hour claims and collective actions, and civil rights claims under state and federal law. Mr. DePonte has defended national and regional employers on a broad range of employment related issues and has represented employers before numerous federal and state agencies and courts.

Chad Richter is a Partner in the Omaha, Nebraska office of Jackson Lewis LLP. Chad has extensive experience representing management in the areas of labor relations, human resource counseling, training, and employment discrimination. Chad has experience advocating for employers before state and federal courts nationwide. He also aggressively defends employers before the EEOC and Department of Labor. He is a certified Mediator in the state of Nebraska and is a member of the Labor and Employment Law sections of the American Bar Association, Nebraska State Bar Association, and the Omaha Bar Association. Chad is admitted to practice in the State of Nebraska as well as before the U.S. District Court and has appeared pro hac vice in various courts and administrative agencies throughout the country.
