It’s one of the best ways to network within Dallas HR! “PEG” stands for “Professional Emphasis Group”. These are groups of Dallas HR members that form around an HR area or even for a given industry to:
- meet and exchange ideas on their areas of HR or industries
- to exchange government / regulatory updates in their areas
- discuss best practices and exchange resources for each other
I recently began working with the PEGs in 2005 and have thoroughly enjoyed the PEG groups and what they accomplish. While some PEGs are much larger than others, the important piece is that the groups provide something valuable to members. I’ve yet to sit through a PEG meeting in which I didn’t witness members exchange a very valuable resource, phone number, or idea that made a member’s life much easier in their current job! It’s also great to see those members determined and willing to provide similar information back to others to repay the favor.
PEGs are a great way to network in a smaller group setting with HR professionals likely experiencing many of the issues / trends that you are, as well either in your area of HR or within your employer’s industry. PEGs may simply choose to meet every other month for networking and roundtable discussion or sometimes choose to hold a workshop with a speaker on a topic of interest.
Another great aspect to PEGs is that there is usually no meeting cost, and the level of participation and involvement is up to you. The PEG groups each determine what they’d like to see within their given PEG and how frequently and when and where they want to meet. The Dallas HR offices also offer some meeting space that can be used at no cost to Dallas HR PEG members with advanced reservations.
