President's Letter

February 2006

If you’re like me, you probably made a resolution (or two) in January that you’ve come to realize might have been a little ambitious - and it’s only February. Actually, I’m more into goals than resolutions, since resolutions are typically about giving things up, and I’m not very good at that.

Nonetheless, whether you’ve set goals or made resolutions, relax! There’s a lot of year left to make good on your promises to yourself, and Dallas HR will be here to help you do it.

For example, if you decided that this is the year you finally get your PHR or SPHR, we’ll be sponsoring another certification class soon to help you get up to speed and pass with flying colors as so many of our members have done before you. Or if you’ve already achieved your certification, you can painlessly add to your credit hours by simply attending our monthly luncheons, for which you’ll receive credit. And you’ll get to eat at the same time. Such a deal!

If this is the year you’ve decided to break out of your rut, get out of your office, and expand your professional network, there’s no better place to do that than at Dallas HR. Networking, like eating green and leafy vegetables, is good for us, but tends to be the last thing we think about in the hustle and bustle of getting through our days. It gets prioritized right off the calendar. In fact, it’s really easy to make time for just about everything but networking – until, of course, we need a network to make a job change. However, networking is a professional skill that can enrich our professional lives and insure us against the inevitable ups and downs of an uncertain business world.

And if this is the year you’ve decided to get out from under that tyrant of a boss or pursue another career direction, Dallas HR can help you with that, too. We have Job Link and e-Link groups for individuals who are making career changes – even for those who have neglected their professional networks until it was almost too late.

At Dallas HR, you can eat and network at the same time – at luncheons, happy hours, breakfast events and even board meetings. Physical and professional sustenance combined into one tidy package.

If you’ve noticed that there’s food theme running through this, you’re right. I’m hungry, and so will stop right now and find something (hopefully) green and leafy in the refrigerator to eat. If not, there are ten more months to make good on my food goal.
