President's Letter
June 2006
If you’re like me, the prospect of spending the summer in Texas is almost too much to bear. Yes, I’m a native. And yes, I think it’s way too HOT!
So when I think summertime in Texas, my mind turns to things that are cool – iced tea, swimming pools and flip flops. However, since I work for a living – as probably do you – there are COOL things we can do over the summer to make the hot days more bearable. And not surprisingly, some of those things have to do with Dallas HR.
Here is a short list of COOL ideas for your summertime pleasure:
- Learn something COOL that you can use right away on the job by attending Tools for Implementing HR Strategic Management.
- Do something COOL for someone else by sponsoring a student to attend HR Southwest for a COOL $100. Remember starting out in the profession? How valuable would it have been for a complete stranger to make it possible for you to experience HR Southwest? If you’re interested in being a student sponsor, contact Marlene Diaz at marlene@hrsouthwest.com.
- Meet someone COOL at our joint luncheon with the D/FW Area Employment Management Association, our sister SHRM chapter, on June 6th. Try sitting with someone you don’t know for a change. It could make his or her day – and yours, too.
- Read something COOL on Dallas HR’s website. Did you know that we now have daily HR news right there on our home page?
- Be COOL. Be the professional you’d like to be by fully participating in Dallas HR. Paying your dues and putting Dallas HR on your resume is fine if that’s what you’d like to do. But getting involved is way COOLER. If you need ideas on how to go about it, just make eye contact with one of our great volunteer leaders.
By the way, if you attended our May luncheon, you were likely able to get a great deal on one or more of the items our generous donors provided for our annual Silent Auction. We raised over $6,000 for the SHRM Foundation!
How COOL is that?
