| Recap - Dallas HR Annual Employment Law Conference 2006
presented by the Law Firm of Epstein, Becker, Green Wickcliff & Hall
|
Headlines, Hot Topics and Updates - were the themes that prevailed this year ranging from Legislative Headlines concerning Immigration to News Headlines discussing "Company XYZ Mistreats Returning War Hero" covering USERRA. The Hot Topics were "Managing the Health Care Crisis", Workplace Privacy", "The New Immigration Minefield", "Corporate Governance and the Culture of Suspicion" - go figure - hello Enron and last but not least "NonCompete Agreements/Intellectual Property Rights".
It is not at all surprising that the Immigration topic was so hot with all the local and national news coverage, walkouts and organized marches. The focus in the news in regard to immigration has been focused on how to best handle or whether to allow legalization of the people that have already been here and then what to do about the constant new arrivals. The other focus is in regard to how employers will deal with the proposed Electronic Verification System that is currently being test piloted by only 2500 companies.
Elise Healy presented the topic about Immigration and stated that the issue would not be resolved quickly - especially with elections coming up.
Coming Soon!
