President's Letter
May 2006
It’s May and my thoughts always turn to wildflowers, spring cleaning, and (of course) Dallas HR’s Bosses Day and Silent Auction benefiting the SHRM Foundation. Our May luncheon is typically the best attended of the year – your opportunity to bring a boss or other guest at the member rate (so long as you register that individual as your guest). It’s your chance to share with your boss what you’ve been doing to increase your professional skills and have some fun while you’re at it.
The fun part comes in the form of the Silent Auction. Last year we raised over $8,300 for the SHRM Foundation, having received 104 items donated from great companies throughout the area. There’s something for everyone – from gift cards to electronics to books to golf and wine outings. Don’t forget to bring your checkbook!
Also, at the May luncheon we’ll be taking donations for the Dallas Life Foundation, one of the community organizations we support with our time and gifts. Needed donations include laundry soap, towels, wash clothes, DART bus passes, deodorant, bar soap and dry cereal.
And if that’s not enough to get you motivated to join us, Randy Pennington will be our speaker. Randy always gets great reviews at Dallas HR, and his topic will be Results Rule!® Build a Culture That Blows The Competition Away!
In other news, stay tuned for details on an upcoming joint program with the DFW Employment Management Association (EMA,) our sister SHRM chapter. We’re looking for ways to collaborate with the EMA to better serve both memberships.
We’re also adding to our list of educational offerings and will post them on the Dallas HR website as they become available. If there’s a particular topic that would interest you, please do let our Educational Program Chairs, Judy Guyer and Steven Scott, know.
Lastly, keep your fingers crossed for the 40 participants in our Spring PHR/SPHR study group. They’ve been hard at work and should see the fruits of their labors soon!
Hope your spring is going well – and that we’ll see you soon!
