During the week of March 20-24, 2006, members of the SHRM student chapter at the University of Texas-Arlington participated in Dallas HR’s first Job Shadow Day Program. Thanks to the support of Dallas HR members, these students were able to spend one day "shadowing" their host, while they went about their daily routines. The purpose of the Job Shadowing experience was to allow the students to gain insights about the Human Resources field, assist them in making decisions about their future job search efforts, as well as providing them with valuable networking opportunities.
According to the feedback received from the students and hosts, the program was a great success. One student commented that the experience “gave me confirmation that this is the field that I want to pursue and I felt it gave me a realistic job preview.” Another student said: “It was great to see what goes on in an HR department. I really liked that I got to see more than just one job in HR; I got to see the entire department, which was great.”
