President's Letter
November 2006
“On Thanksgiving Day we acknowledge our dependence.” ~William Jennings Bryan
As Thanksgiving approaches, it seems appropriate to me to acknowledge that we are all connected – and that our success depends to a large degree on the extent to which we are able to be part of a greater whole. At Dallas HR, there is no greater truth, and I am thankful for the opportunity to play a part.
If you were in Ft. Worth for HR Southwest in October, it’s likely you’re still recovering. We had a grand time and managed to meet a bunch of new people and learn new things at the same time. If you missed out, never fear. HR Southwest (like October) comes around every year. So you can go ahead and pencil us in for 2007. It’ll be here before you know it!
HR Southwest, as you can imagine, is a huge undertaking that is a whole year in the making. Linda Miller, HR Southwest’s Conference Director for 2006, did an outstanding job of leading our many volunteers in putting together this year’s conference. And of course, it couldn’t have been pulled off without our team at the Dallas HR office, led by Diane McClendon. Hats off to all of you for what you have contributed of your time and talents to the conference this year!
Dallas HR is approaching the end of another successful year, building on the accomplishments of so many who have made the organization what it is today. Note, that our next luncheon is on Tuesday, November 14th, and the topic (near and dear to my heart) is "Worksite Wellness – Strategic Planning for Effective Implementation". With health care costs increasing dramatically, wellness has risen to the top of many executives’ agendas, as they’ve recognized the potential significant impact on their bottom lines.
Last, but certainly not least, I’d like to welcome Susan Frear, PHR, to the Dallas HR team. Susan has recently joined Dallas HR as Director of Education, and will build on the foundation already in place and make sure additional offerings are in sync with the needs of our members.
As always, I welcome your feedback, and look forward to seeing you at Dallas HR soon!
Warm regards,
Carol Hollen, SPHR
