In Memory of a Dallas HR Past President - Drew Young
|
Drew Young’s life ended this September at the ripe age of 90. While, for his generation, this alone may be a significant accomplishment, it does not even approach what he was able to achieve during those years as a business man. The measure of one’s life is best determined through the impact of his/her contributions to the betterment of society, and in this regard, Drew had few equals.
As one of Drew’s close business friends for over forty years, the following thoughts surface when I think of him.
Character – His integrity could stand the closest scrutiny. He could be trusted.
Energy – Effortlessly, multi-tasking was part and parcel of his makeup.
Vision – He revered knowledge and led many of his peers, sometimes grudgingly, toward acceptance of professional accreditation for practitioners of Human Resource management.
Global Perspective – His interests and influence may have begun in Dallas, however, his passion and commitment built partnerships on several continents.
Team Builder – His leadership qualities served as a magnet to attract like-minded business professionals to work with him on a multitude of assignments.
Humility – While Drew was never reluctant to take the lead, even if publicity might be ever present, he was quick to ensure that recognition would be accorded others integral to the effort.
Drew was proud of the pre-eminent role Dallas/Fort Worth has played in furthering his expanded role for Human Resource professionals in ever-changing and expanding business organizations.
We’ll all miss his presence.
