President's Letter
October 2006
Without a lot of fanfare but certainly worth celebrating, Dallas HR hit a major milestone recently. Our membership recently reached an all time high – 1949! (Yes, that’s our membership number, not the year of my birth.)
We continue to add new members each month and welcome each and every one of you. However, we’re also working hard to provide programming, networking and professional development opportunities that engage all of our members. In a nutshell, we’d like Dallas HR to be the one resource that you can’t do without in your professional life. That’s a lofty goal, I know, but it keeps our members front and center in our thoughts and plans.
In that vein, you’ll notice that we’ve added quite a few new professional development offerings, like Workplace Spanish for the HR Professional. In fact, we delivered more training in August 2006 than we did in all of 2002. No wonder our volunteers and staff members are tired!
You might also have noticed that we’ve grown our Professional Emphasis Groups (PEGs) this year – the most recent addition being the Banking and Financial Services Industry PEG, which is already going strong. There is always room for one more, however, so if you would value being with a group of HR professionals with a particular specialty not covered by a current PEG, let us know. There may be other members with just that interest who would be willing to join with you in the formation of a PEG.
You may also have noticed that in October, we won’t be holding our normal monthly membership meeting because the HR Southwest Conference and Exposition is taking place in Ft. Worth October 17th through 20th. No, it’s not too late to register. HR Southwest is a great way to combine networking with professional development, and have fun while you’re doing it. So come join us!
Warm regards,
Carol Hollen, SPHR
