President's Letter
September 2006
I understand that many of you have a lot on your minds (and plates) these days - like balancing finding the right talent for your company with making sure your kids have the right school supplies - and that you might need gentle reminders of some of the events upcoming that can make a real difference in your careers.
One of those events, Dallas HR’s Diversity Conference, is a must-do for those of you who are accountable for diversity initiatives in your organizations or who simply want to gain a better understanding of what companies are doing these days to foster a more inclusive culture. The Diversity Conference is September 12th. You can register for the whole conference, or just the luncheon – whichever works best with your calendar.
And if you’ve been living under a rock, it might have escaped your notice that HR Southwest is right around the corner. Yes, HR Southwest Conference & Exhibition will be at the Convention Center in Ft. Worth October 17th - 20th, and it’s not too late to register. Details are at www.hrsouthwest.com.
Both of the above are great ways to increase your HR acumen, add certification hours, and network with peers who share your interests. However, what you might not know that attending one of these events can change your life. Yes, change your life. I know this for a fact, as I met my current boss at an HR Southwest conference several years ago (on our shared birthday, believe it or not.) Over time, we networked with each other, swapped ideas, met for lunch occasionally, and became friends. And eventually, it just made sense for me to redirect my career her way.
Will simply attending one of these events really change your life? No promises, but as Woody Allen once said, "Eighty percent of success is showing up."
