Human Resource Competency Development Program

The University of Dallas, in partnership with Dallas HR, has developed a series of educational programs for the HR professional based on the HR competency model developed by Dave Ulrich and Wayne Brockbank of the RBL Group and the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan. Each semester, a series of courses will be offered that link specifically to one of the competencies outlined in this model.

“Resolving Workplace Conflict”

November 18, 2009
9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Conflict is, to some degree, normal in the workplace. Positive conflict can result in creative ideas and debate. Negative conflict can severely impact corporate culture. Therefore managing and resolving conflict is a regular part of a human resource professional's role. This program provides skills in communication, listening, empathy and problem solving needed to be effective in conflict resolutions. Whether resolving conflict as a strategic partner or mediating between two employees, the goal is to recognize friction and tension and deal with it before it escalates into a major problem resulting in lower productivity and increased turnover. In this session, attendees will:

  • Determine the impact of conflict on organizational performance and culture
  • Increase skills in resolving conflict as a coach, human resource professional, and leader
  • Implement an effective Retention Action Plan for their entire team
