Student Leader of the Year: Award Recipient & Finalists

The Student Leader of the Year Award is given to an officer in a SHRM student chapter for the prior school year.  The nominees must be a current DallasHR student member (or recent grad); have participated in at least one DallasHR event during the school year and must have been enrolled full-time at their university during the entire prior school year.

Alondra Flores Romo - Texas Woman's University

 

Alondra is a recent TWU graduate who received her undergraduate degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Human Resources. Throughout her time at TWU, Alondra served as president of her TWU SHRM Chapter and began many programs through connections with Dallas HR such as the mentorship program and Project Hope a community service project which provided thousands of teddy bears to children in hospitals during the holidays. This led her to receive the 2018 Emerging Leader of the Year at TWU. Now, Alondra is pursuing her passion as an HR Administrative Assistant at Grainger in Roanoke, TX where she gets to touch every part of the HR spectrum including training and development, compliance, onboarding, and recruiting.

Callie Anderson - Baylor University


Callie is a recent graduate of Baylor University where she received her Bachelor of Business Administration in Human Resource Management.  While at Baylor, she received the Christian Ethics and Leadership in Business scholarship her senior year and she was a member of the Baylor Women in Business all four years at Baylor.  She was also a keynote speaker at the Bear Talk Campus Leadership event where she shared her leadership development journey in a TED talk format to other students.  She has been a member of SHRM since 2016 and is a former member and co-president of the Baylor Association of Human Resources.  

Callie is currently a HR Tax Consultant at Deloitte Tax, LLP, in Chicago on the Global Mobility Services team. 
 



Kyla Sanders - University of North Texas

 

Kyla Sanders is a senior at the University of North Texas and will be graduating in December 2018 with a BBA in Human Resource Management. She is currently President of UNT SHRM and has been an officer in UNT SHRM for more than two years. Kyla has been a Resident Assistant at UNT for the past six semesters. She worked with UNT's G-Force - a mentorship/leadership position where she informed and aided high school students in post-graduation planning. 

Kyla is currently an intern at Toyota North American Head Quarters in Plano, TX where she practices customer relations, communication skills, and obtaining extensive product knowledge. In the future she would like to becomes a part of an organization where she can work in various aspects of HR including compensation and benefits, talent acquisition, and training and development to ultimately round out as an HR Generalist or HR Business Partner.
 

 

Alayna Thomas - University of Texas at Dallas

 

Alayna Thomas is a rising Senior at the University of Texas at Dallas who is actively pursuing two degrees. Alayna is pursuing her bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management and her master’s degree in Business Administration. Alayna is currently the SHRM at UTD chapter President, a Residential Advisor, and serves on the Discipline Committee. Over the summer, Alayna was an Intern in the People Department at Southwest Airlines. Alayna finds joy in travel, purposeful projects, and time with friends.
